Alive with the Sound of Music!

I can not tell you how incredible it has been to see and hear Sunninghill become alive once again with the sound of Music! Our nine wonderful peripatetic teachers have resumed face-to-face teaching and our talented pupils, right across the school, are now learning fourteen different instruments ranging from recorders to double bass and ukulele to the harp!

We have constantly been so impressed with our children’s enthusiasm and talent, and our final community virtual music project ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’, really summed up everyone’s musical determination and perseverance during the past 12 months. I also hope you have all enjoyed watching (and listening) to both our Christmas and Easter videos, which featured so many of our virtually recorded musical items.

I think my personal favourite, was the school orchestra’s recording of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ and the vocal line ‘dreams that you dream of really do come true’ is so pertinent to the music department this term. We can now, once again, see children passionately engaging with live music. As well as the peripatetic instrumental lessons, all classes across the school are receiving weekly specialist Music and Drama lessons, taught by myself and Mr Vanburgh and many classes are learning and playing group ensemble instruments. We have also started five different music clubs across both bubbles, including Strings, Vocal, Brass and Recorders. Our senior Able, Gifted and Talented musicians have also begun to learn their Grade 5 Music Theory- which covers many topics at a level equivalent to GCSE!
