A little shout out for Lydia this morning who is beavering away in her office. Lydia is our second longest serving member of staff, pipped only by Mrs Saines who started just one month earlier.
Lydia has held a multitude of jobs and continues to juggle many responsibilities now. In a small school we all have to be flexible in our mind set.
This morning Lydia is completing one of her (and our) most important roles which is to DBS a new member of staff. DBS is the Disclosure and Baring Service and checks for suitability of employment via proof of address, identity, cross checking references, eligibility to work in the UK and much more. All this information finds it way on to our Single Central Register of appointments – a key part of compliance testing when the inspectors call!
She is also replenishing her first aid room and equipment after a busy term.
Lydia is also my avian advisor and reminded me that my hens have to be safely tucked away now whilst the threat of avian flu exists. Given a choice I am certain they would much rather be in the house with us – they’re very tame.
