I never imagined for a moment that my first blog post would be reflecting on the passing of Her Majesty, The Queen.
I, of course, have many exciting things to share with you about the fantastic start to term the children have had but instead I would like to share with you how the children have responded to the death of Queen Elizabeth II. First thing this morning they arrived at school to a flag at half-mast and took time with their form teachers to reflect on the news. The Queen has clearly had a powerful influence on the children as they shared their understanding of her role and impact. Many of the children have written comments in an online book of remembrance or lit a virtual candle. The link for this is here, should you wish to do this with them at home too.
We held a special assembly this morning to mark this sad and historic moment and I was so impressed with how respectful the children were and how beautifully they sang. We will be reflecting and celebrating her life over the coming days in the lead up to the funeral. One way in which we would like to commemorate Her Majesty is with a Book of Remembrance which we will open to the whole school community. On Monday we will share the book with the children so they can think about what message they would like to leave and then from Tuesday onwards the book will be placed in Reception during morning drop off and at the end of the day. Parents and grandparents are welcome to come in and sign it if they wish.
As I am sure Her Majesty would have wanted, we will be strong as a school family and support each other and reflect on her life of steadfast and indefatigable service that is an inspiration to us all.
Our thoughts and prayers are with The Royal Family at this very sad time.
