This morning we had a very special but rather emotional assembly, as Form 4 held their Graduation Assembly. We were treated to a wonderful slideshow showcasing some of the fabulous activities they have got up to over the past few years at Sunninghill, followed by a list of their favourite memories of Junior Prep. Each child was presented with a framed animal picture made up of all the lovely words that their friends would use to describe them. Finally they sang ‘We go Together’ as the children celebrated their amazing friendships and a wonderful final year in Junior Prep. Thank you to Mrs Gough and Mrs Brown for helping put together such a lovely assembly and congratulations to our Fabulous Year 4’s who graduate to Senior Prep next year. We know whatever you do next you will do so with Courage, Commitment, Compassion and Creativity.

Our Academic Excellence winners this week were Gabriel, Mina, Clara, Beau, Nikolas and Sasha.  Charlie won the Commitment award, Remi the Compassion award, AJ the Courage award, and Aiden the Creativity award.

After assembly, the whole school joined Coco’s dad, Charles who is running the number of miles that correspond to the day of the month for the whole of June. Yesterday 18 miles, today 19 miles, tomorrow 20 miles. By tomorrow, and for the last 9 days of June, Charles will be running an average of one marathon a day. In this heat! If this wasn’t impressive enough, Charles is making it not just physically challenging but mentally challenging too by doing the whole thing around our 0.1 mile sports field. For 20 miles that is 200 times around the field!

Charles is doing this to help raise money for The Den by Underdogs Wellbeing Community Interest Company, where anybody can go to find help to get them through their tricky days. The Den is run by volunteers but costs £1350 every month just to open its doors. If you are able to support him, please go to: https://gofund.me/d55ae9a8
It is wonderful to see the children and staff continue to get involved supporting Charles, running one lap or 6 miles with him, as one of our Year 8 boys, Natty, did last Friday afternoon!
You are an inspiration Charles and we are all behind you!

The school has been a little quiet this week as our Form 8’s have been on their residential. Tomorrow morning our intrepid explorers return from Spain, after what I hear has been an absolutely awesome residential! They have been rock climbing, cycling 30km, braving a 90m via ferrata, which is definitely not for the faint hearted, and spent their last day at Aqualandia – an absolutely huge water park! They have also had the opportunity to explore the local town and chill out in the pool at the villa! It sounds brilliant! My thanks, as ever to the fabulous staff who accompanied them – Mr Stazicker and Ms Thomasson, and the team at Rock and Rapids Adventures, who never fail to help our children have the most incredible adventures on their residentials.

Our pupils have been busy creating some fabulous artwork this term, including vibrant African sunset paintings by Form 2, Slithery squids by Form 2, War Art artwork by Form 8 created in response to a war poem, slab built creature containers by Form 6 and rainforest in a shoebox by some of Form 4. Some really impressive work everyone!

On Monday, Forms 5 and 6 had absolutely fabulous day preparing a concert in a day at Clayesmore School. Our incredible children were superstars, rocking out on steel pans, showing off their dance moves, getting rhythm with djembe drumming, and learning brand new songs. A massive thank you to Clayesmore for such a wonderful day, and to all our parents for coming along to support!

On Thursday, Year 2 enjoyed a wonderful trip to Corfe Castle under bright sunny skies. The children explored the fascinating history of the castle, learning about its past owners and how it was eventually destroyed. They discovered how the castle was once defended and were lucky to spot a steam train passing by from Swanage. A special highlight was seeing a baby peregrine falcon nesting in a former fireplace! The children also spent time carefully sketching different parts of the castle, capturing its impressive features. It was a fantastic day of learning and discovery!

This week we had the National ‘Thank a Teacher Day’. I wanted to end this week’s round up with a thank you from me to all my amazing colleagues, who work so hard every day keeping your children at the very centre of everything that they do.

We are very lucky to have these incredible and inspirational teachers at Sunninghill who always go the extra mile to make school a very happy place – both in the Nursery and in the Prep. We are a very special family and yesterday it was lovely to hear from those staff who were recognised by pupils and their parents who wrote, or verbally said, thank you for all that they do. All our staff were very touched by the kind words of thanks – it really means a lot. Thank you.

With the return of our Form 8’s in the early hours of the morning, on Monday we will be saying ‘bon voyage’ to our Form 7’s as they head off to the Brecon Beacons – fingers crossed this wonderful weather holds for them!

Please don’t forget the PTFA Summer Fayre next weekend! It’s going to be a fun filled fayre!

Have a wonderful, hot and sunny weekend everyone
