I would like to begin by thanking you all for coming to our meet the teacher event last Friday. It was lovely to see so many of you here and I hope it gave you a bit of an insight into where we are going as a school. Most importantly it was a chance to meet up with your child’s teacher and a chance to meet up with other parents too. If any of you were not able to attend but would like to see the presentation, please let me know and I can forward it to you. Also do feel free to come in and meet with me anytime, you are always welcome.
It was a lovely evening that ended well when Daisy turned up with partridge for my supper! Thank you Daisy.
I am delighted to see the commitment from a growing number of pupils who are turning out for our 2K park run on Tuesday mornings. The selfie below shows some of them just before the warm up. All children are welcome and so are adults too!

Huge thanks to Mme Smith for facilitating all the creative arrangements for European Day of Languages on Monday. Amongst many activities on the day, children were encouraged to say hello in a different language for registration. We had a fabulous Bake off competition and had 15 beautiful and tasty entries. The creativity was quite frankly astounding, there were prizes, certificates and mini Eiffel Tower keyrings for all the children’s efforts. The cakes were sliced up and sold at breaktime and all money raised is going to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Thanks must also go to Kerry and her catering team for the wonderful European themed menu served up at lunch time, including croissants au fromage et jambon, and patatas bravas.
All year groups continue to have a creative flair in school. Form 8’s have been studying food and digestion in Science.
Their homework brief was to create a model of the digestive system out of any materials they like. Mrs Evans, Head of Science, was extremely impressed with their creations and I felt I must share these amazing outcomes with you all.
Thursday morning saw our first Prefects meeting in the Drawing Room. To help get the creativity rolling, we shared cake and the team came up with some adventurous ideas. We talked about supporting our youngest children in the school community, organising a writing competition and organising subject quizzes, amongst many other exciting ideas to put into practice.
Form 7’s have been busy in PSHE this week, thinking about their feelings. Children were very reflective on how sometimes they need to be more generous in helping people, how they need to not be so hard on themselves, treat themselves with kindness and not be afraid to take risks. They took some time to complete Feelings Trees, as you can see below.

Form 1 came to share their beautiful artwork with me yesterday. They had collected interesting autumnal things from a nature walk around the grounds and taken them back to the classroom to draw. Whilst they were drawing they talked about how nature changes by the season, observed the shape and texture of the leaves and talked about the lichen too. A lot of learning opportunities crammed into a lovely creative task. The results were very impressive and they have promised I can have a copy for my wall.
As I am sure you are aware we have our first Open Morning of the new academic year scheduled for the 14th October, 9.30-12.00.
We already have prospective families scheduled to tour but we thought it would be a lovely opportunity for our current families to look around the school too, so that you can see your own children together with the wider school at work. If you would like to bring any extended family members or indeed friends who may be interested to have a look around, then please do invite them along. Alumni news – It is always exciting to hear from past pupils and their achievements. We are always very proud of their progress and look forward to celebrating any news we hear.
Bella L (leaver 2016) – Went to Thomas Hardye School and is now studying Modern Languages (French and German) at Cambridge.
Ben E – (leaver 2020) Congratulations to Ben who, this summer, passed GCSE further maths a year early! Ben achieved a Level 9. What is even more impressive is that he accomplished this with a score of 100%! He was also the only Year 10 pupil at Hardye’s to be entered for this paper.
There is now a long list of other pupils who have gone on to great things and we will start to build an Alumni area on the website. If you have any news you would like to share please do get in touch.
Looking ahead, I have decided that the blog will be published once a week so that we can share all of our news, achievements and adventures in one.
