Welcome back everyone! Although a short week back, we have had so much fun already! As it is so warm, we have made the most of our lovely outdoor pool, enjoyed lollies in the grounds and had lots of outdoor learning. The sun has been shining all week and it has been fabulous catching up with all the children and hearing about all their holiday adventures.

This morning we had great fun as we attempted to encapsulate all the wonderful holiday challenges in one photo! Little did I imagine that when I asked the children to bring in props to show off their new skills that they had learnt over the holidays, we would not only have paddle boards, musical instruments and loaves of bread but also a quad bike and a calf! Absolutely brilliant! The photo is wonderful – but so are all the children! They all embraced the challenge of trying something new over the Summer and I am incredibly proud of all of them. I have absolutely loved seeing all the photos and videos (all available to see on our Facebook page!) and hearing all about these challenges – from water sports, gymnastics, climbing and cycling to flying, baking, driving and circus skills, to name but a few! Just because the Summer is over – please don’t stop showing courage and commitment and trying new challenges all through the year – and if you found something new that you loved – keep it up, and please share your progress with us.

We are absolutely delighted to announce our new Heads of School for the Autumn Term – Tom and Kitty! We are so proud of you both and know you are going to do a fabulous job in supporting the children and staff at Sunninghill. We are also thrilled to welcome our new cohort of Form 8 prefects who we know will do a brilliant job this year!

As I mentioned in my welcome back letter, I would like to say a huge welcome to all our new children…Alfie, Elodie, Gabriel and Penelope in Nursery, Jonah and Juliet in Reception, Toby in Form 2, Emily in Form 3, Manu, Anna and Sukey in Form 5, Sophia in Form 6, Louis in Form 7 and Daisy in Form 8.

I would also like to say welcome to our new staff; Simon Rich, our new head of Mathematics, Karen Woollam who will be working in marketing and admissions and James Burridge who is our new bus driver. You are all so welcome and we are excited that you have joined our Sunninghill Community.

I would like to share with you some charity fundraising news from members of our Sunninghill Community:

Firstly, Will and Freddie in Form 8 are fundraising for the Andrew Simpson Foundations by taking part in Bart’s Bash 2023. It makes us incredibly proud when members of our school show compassion towards others – so well done boys! To find our more and to sponsor Will and Freddie, please follow the link to their Just Giving page below:

Also fundraising is Mrs Telfer who will be running an incredible 100km on Saturday 16th September, with her group ‘The Running Girls’. They have already completed a marathon and an Ultra (50km). Amongst other charities, Mrs Telfer is raising money for Mosaic, a fabulous charity that supported her family when she lost her husband.

Mrs Telfer says:
‘Mosaic became a vital resource for us as a family when we tragically lost Tom in a work accident. Losing their Daddy at such young ages (4 and 20 months) the girls have needed specialised support and still do in the form of counsellors, residentials and days out where they can share their experiences and talk to others going through similar situations. Parents and carers are very much supported too and share in a safe and understanding environment. Mosaic is a child-centered service offering a pathway of support for bereaved children, young people and their families. They offer support pre-bereavement, post bereavement and immediately following a bereavement. If anyone wants to follow our journey you can find us on Facebook @therunninggirls’

If you can sponsor Mrs Telfer she would be very grateful:

Next Friday we will be holding a welcome BBQ for the whole school at pick up time. We hope as many of you as are able will come along and join us and welcome some of our new parents. We will start at pick up time, so from 3.30pm for the younger years, and will have a BBQ from 4.30pm. We will open the pool from 4.00pm – 5.00pm for those children that fancy a swim.

Finally on Saturday 7th October we will be holding our next Open Morning, from 9.30am – 12pm. Please keep it free if you can as we would love as many of our children to attend and show off our wonderful school to prospective parents.

Enjoy a fabulous weekend in the sunshine before Autumn returns next week!

Best wishes

David
