It’s been another busy week at Sunninghill, with trips to Corfe Castle and Chesil Beach for Form 7, a trip to the library for Nursery and a trip to Bryanston for some of our Form 6 scientists. We have had a cake sale to support the Young Leaders Charity – WWF, a junior informal concert and book sharing for the whole school. Please make sure that you check our Facebook and Instagram pages for all the photos and events at Sunninghill.
This week I have spent a lot of the week away at meetings and at a Head’s Conference in Derby, so I have asked our fabulous Form 8’s to help write the weekly review this week.
Over to you Form 8…
Today we started our assembly with an amazing performance from Form 2! They focused on the their topic ‘Nurturing Nurses’ and the impact they have today. They shared with us fascinating facts about Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale (the lady with the lamp!). Their assembly also showed us all the importance of the four core school values – compassion, courage, creativity and commitment. Well done Form 2!
Our academic excellence winners this week were: Juliet and Scarlett C-M. Well done winners this week were Remi, Guy, Daisy H, Hamo and the whole of Form 2! Finally, the four C’s winners this week for compassion were Juliette S and Leo. The courage award went to George R and Hamish. Creativity was awarded to Beau F and Coco. Last but not least the commitment award was received by Violet and Daisy H. Heidi also received her gold badge for 150 house points this year! Congratulations to everyone who received an award this week!

Young leaders have been working hard this week to raise awareness for our chosen charity – WWF. We put together a presentation for the whole school which taught the children about different endangered animals. The 3 we settled on were sea turtles, snow leopards and elephants. We presented each animal to the school and then everyone voted on which animal should be chosen for adoption, and the winner was a snow leopard. We have also organised an art competition which is due in on Monday. Children can create any piece of art of either an elephant, snow leopard or turtle. There is a soft toy prize for the winner!
On Friday the young leaders ran a cake sale supported and organised by Mrs. Johnstone to raise money to adopt a snow leopard. The children baked their own cakes to bring in and sell which were delicious. It was a brilliant way to end this week and also to raise awareness of animals which are in danger of becoming extinct. We are grateful to Mrs. Johnstone for her support.

Match reports
On Wednesday, the Form 8 girls played an amazing game of netball. It was a very heated match as Sunninghill and the opposing team were equally matched with skill. After a close match, Bryanston Prep won the match. All of the players however played to the best of their ability. Kitty in Form 8 was awarded player of the match for her amazing defending skills. Well done to everyone who participated in a match this week! Their commitment is appreciated.

On Wednesday, Sunninghill B Team played Sherborne School with a score of 3-0 with Sherborne winning. Andreas had 1 shot with an excellent save from the goal keeper. Leo H did a great play at defence. Our team captain Dexter had great organisation for our school team. Finally, Natty did an exceptional save from a hard shot. I personally thought everyone had a great performance.

On Wednesday afternoon years 7-8 boys played hockey against Sherborne and Port Regis. The first team to play was the Sunninghill A team vs the Port Regis team. In the first half, both Sunninghill and Port Regis were on the ball and offensive play was frequent on both sides, however in the second half Sunninghill lost their heads and lost 3-1 to Port Regis. Well done to Harvey for scoring a goal in the first half and a very big well done to all of the 7-8 boys for getting stuck into the game. And last but not least thank you very much to the catering team for the match tea.

Rotary Writing Competition
Children from Forms 5 to 8 participated in a Rotary Club creative writing competition with the title “Rebuilding”. There was a range of different styles of creative writing from poems to short stories.
In the Junior competition, Sunninghill pupils did very well with a first place win for Lottie and a 3rd place for Felix, both in Form 6. In the Senior competition, Sunninghill pupils took the top three places with Will A in Form 8 taking first place, Izzy in Form 8 and Scarlet C-M in Form 7 coming joint second and Tabitha in Form 8 coming third.
All the pupils that participated worked extremely hard and deserve a huge well done!

The nursery children have been enjoying their space topic this term. They are getting ready for Easter, learning ‘Hop Little Bunny’ with their teachers. Soon they will be doing some Easter activities in class which will be ‘eggselent!’. Isn’t that exciting! I’m sure they will be ready for the Easter egg hunt at the end of term – they might even find a white golf tee…

On Thursday here at Sunninghill Prep School we held our junior informal music concert. These concerts are made to help children step out of their comfort zone and try out performing. We had a wonderful evening with lots of singing, drumming and violin playing. All of the children played beautifully and we are so proud of them for being so brave in front of the big audience. We know that performing in front of an audience is scary for some children but yesterday they all stood up and played amazingly like they were all professional musicians. All the parents were also catered for with tea, coffee and cake from our lovely catering staff. Thank you to all the parents who came not only to support their own child but all of the other wonderful children playing in the concert.

Tonight a group of our children are off to Bath to watch the Vitality Super League Netball – Bath vs. 7 Stars. We hope they have a fabulous time. Tomorrow we have several musicians taking part in the Weymouth and Dorset Music Festival. We wish them lots of luck and we can’t wait to hear how they got on.
Next week is book week and on Monday the Hobgoblin Theatre are coming in for a performance to Junior Prep and the children will have the chance to dress up as their favourite book characters on Friday.
We also have Careers Week next week, with lots of interesting talks for our Senior Prep pupils.
Finally, we would like to introduce you to Dianne Armstrong who joins us on Monday as our Deputy Head of Nursery, and Darren Launder who joined us today as a painter and decorator. We hope you will introduce yourselves to them when you see them around school and give them a warm Sunninghill welcome.
Have a wonderful weekend and see you all next week for another very busy week.
