This term is always a busy time of year for any music department! We have had a fantastic start to the term with lots of children taking up new instruments and children returning to old instruments now that we can resume lessons face to face.
This means that are over 100 instrumental lessons and 10 music clubs/ensembles running each week in school.
During Friday’s assembly, Mrs Robson (our woodwind and piano teacher) performed for our children alongside 2 other professional musicians. The orchestral performance was a real treat, hearing the professional musicians perform and it was lovely to see all the children so engaged. Mrs Saines, Head of Art, worked with the children to create art work inspired by the music which they really enjoyed, thank you Mrs Saines.
This forms part of Junior Preps music curriculum, learning about different instruments of the orchestra.
This Thursday Mrs Nolan-Stone will be taking a selection of our more experienced musicians to Bryanston for an Orchestral Day. This day requires pupils to be of Grade 3 standard, but they will also run an afternoon later in the school year where pupils Grade 1-2 will be invited to attend. Mr Vanburgh will also be taking some of our young pianists to attend a Piano Day at Sherborne Prep School. Both days will be extremely valuable and rewarding and everyone looks forward to them.
Each term we run 2 informal concerts and a formal concert. The informal concert is a perfect opportunity for young performers to give their debuts in a relaxed environment. Our next informal music concert is Thursday 2nd December at 4.30pm in the school hall and Mrs Nolan-Stone is looking forward to lots of children being involved.
We are very excited to host our first formal concert of the term, which is performed by senior children selected by the peripatetic music teachers. This concert will be held in the drawing room on Friday 3rd December at 7.00pm. Everyone is welcome to join us for both of these concerts.
Everything is now building up towards the Nativity, Carols Under the Stairs and The Christmas Carol Service. Junior Prep were heard practicing their singing for the Nativity in the music room last week and managed to capture a shot!
