What a fabulous week we have had at Sunninghill this week. Science galore with the Science Dome and first ever Science Fair today and one of my favourite events of the year – Grandparent’s Day!
Today, Reception impressed us with their wonderful assembly on their new topic ‘Machines and Transport’. They talked about the work they have been doing and the trip on the Swanage Railway, where they learnt about how old steam trains work and looked for clues that told them just how old they were. We saw photos of them playing in the park, enjoying a picnic lunch and a huge ice cream on the beach! Mr Stazicker even dressed up as the ‘Fat Controller’ for them!
It is an incredibly nerve wracking experience speaking in front of the whole school for the first time, and I was so proud that each and every one of them who spoke their lines, smiled, sang and gave us a wonderful assembly. Well done to Reception and to Mrs Sleightholme!
We had much to celebrate in assembly, with Zachary and Felix winning awards in Swimming and Kickboxing, Vira achieving her ABRSM Grade 5 music theory – an amazing achievement as this is equivalent to a GCSE level examination! In Monday’s assembly we also celebrated Amelka who participated in the IAPS National Swimming Finals at the London Aquatic Centre, based in the Olympic Park. Amelka placed 6th overall which is a fantastic achievement.
Our Academic Excellence winners were Alfie, George, Grace, Ted, Rosa, Sonny S and Harvey. Well done certificates were awarded to the whole of Reception, Ivy, Sofia, Henry and Sophia.
This week the Commitment award went to Felix and Louis C, Compassion to George and Nathaniel, Courage to Hamo and Callisto and Creativity to William and Daisy H. Well done everyone for another excellent week.
We had the most wonderful afternoon at our Grandparent’s Day yesterday! It was such an incredible turnout and we have received so many lovely comments from our visitors. The children were so excited to see their Grandparents, and were so proud to show off their school as they gave them a tour. They were treated to a beautiful posey, made by Mrs Culshaw and Mrs Stein, afternoon tea and several musical performances. We were especially proud of our nursery children who performed for the first time in front of a very big audience! Thank you to everyone who attended and made it such a special event!
We’re bursting with pride after the incredible success of our very first Sunninghill Prep Science Fair today! With over a quarter of our pupils taking part, the creativity, curiosity and scientific thinking on display was truly outstanding.
Winners:
Reception & Form 1: Juliet – Tsunami Survival Experiment
Forms 2–4: Charlie – Snack Delivery Machine
Group Category: Ted, Shayan & Max – Investigating Plants
Senior Category: Rosa – Osmosis in Gummy Bears
Highly Commended: Albie (Form 6) & Sampson (Form 2)
A huge well done to all our exhibitors – you amazed us with your passion and ingenuity! And a big thank you to our judge, Abi Elliot, Head of Science at Bryanston School, and to the PTFA for generously funding the prizes, medals and certificates.
From our Little Robins Nursery Bobbins children to Form 8, our pupils were transported from the depths of the ocean to the heart of a volcano, explored the wonders of evolution, and marveled at the beauty of fractals — all inside the incredible Science Dome this week! Both children and adults were absolutely wowed by the immersive experience — the perfect spark ahead of our first ever Science Fair! A huge thank you to our amazing PTFA for making this possible!
We also have our PTFA to thank for some new additions to the Nursery gardens. Earlier on in the term, our PTFA ran a very successful quiz night to raise some money for some new toys for Nursery.
The children are absolutely delighted to have 3 new balance bikes, 2 new football goals, and some balance stepping stones in Bobbins, and a new climbing frame in our Hatchlings/Fledglings gardens. We are still awaiting the fabulous new mud kitchen to arrive for them too! Thank you so much to our PTFA and for the team who worked so hard to make the Quiz such a success! The children are loving their new toys!
This weekend our intrepid Form 8 pupils head to Spain for a week for their very active residential. They always have such a wonderful time – and Mr Stazicker and Mrs Thomasson are looking forward to taking them all on their adventure.
Tonight is our PTFA picnic and games afternoon – and despite the unpredictable forecast it is looking lovely and sunny! Perfect for swimming and diamond cricket!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
