Today the school has been awash with spotty children and Pudsey ears! Yes, It’s Children in Need day today! This morning in assembly we talked about what Children in Need is all about and the important work they do for organisations all around the country.
The children have been working hard to raise money for this brilliant cause. On Wednesday, the children organised a cake sale, with delicious home made cakes, and between them, each class completed their 25k challenge! Thank you to everyone who wore spots, baked and donated money for such a wonderful cause. So far we have raised over £540!
Our ‘Well Done’ winners this week were Elodie, Jonah, Florence, Jake, Jia Wei, Charlie, Seb F, Baxter, Form 7 and Form 8. Our Academic Excellence winners were William, Penelope, Romeo. Gianni, Alice and Rosa. Ewan and Rory received the Commitment award this week, Sandro and Rosa the Creativity award, Florence and Sophia the Compassion award and Freddy and Manu the Courage award.
I was also delighted to give out a huge number of bronze house point badges today to celebrate the 50 house points that have been achieved by so many children.
In the spirit of thinking of others, on Tuesday we held our Remembrance Service at St. George’s Church.
Baxter read his beautiful poem, ‘Never Forget’ and Form 8 read ‘In Flanders Fields’. They all read each poem with such poise and confidence which made me so proud as it is incredibly daunting reading in front of a full congregation.
We also had musical performances from Jia Wei, Anna and Lottie, and also from our Senior String Group. Our Senior Vocal Group, who sung the stunning ‘Sail On, Boys’, and our Chamber Choir who sang ‘Imagine’ which was so beautiful. Our thanks, to Mrs Moss, Rev’d Keith Magee, and to Maurice Osbourne for his incredibly moving tribute to his late father, a veteran and long standing friend of Sunninghill Prep. I am sure I am not alone when my thoughts went to those who are currently suffering as a result of war, as well as those who lost their lives for peace and freedom.
Last Sunday I was also privileged to take part, with a number of our pupils and their parents, in the Dorchester Service of Remembrance and parade and service at the Cenotaph. A beautiful service bringing together so many parts of the Dorchester Community.
After our wonderful Remembrance Service, we are now rehearsing for our carol concert, and our nativity rehearsals are also in full swing. It was lovely to hear Year 3 practising the trumpet today!
Next week is anti bullying week, and we will be focusing in school on being kind to each other and to ourselves.
Please take some time this weekend to do something entirely for yourself!
Have a wonderful weekend.
David
