Form 8 requested a photo of the class jumping into the school pool for the cover of their Leavers’ Service sheet. They wanted to go in school uniform but we persuaded them to change into PE kit! They are having a great last week wearing their special 2022 leavers’ hoodies.
Today, after the Sports Endeavour Cup and Sports Colours, and the Music Colours were awarded in assembly, the whole school enjoyed a visit from the Mr Whippy van. It was a very long queue but worth the wait! Some children thought it should be ‘Whippy Wednesday’.
Congratulations to all the children achieving colours and cups.
I must thank the PTFA who have ordered a giant slide for the school. It arrived today but Les and Ant will need to cement it in before children can have a go. Not sure if it will be done before Speech Day on Friday but it will get plenty of use in our 5-week holiday club!
We ended last week with another excellent Formal Music Concert. Thank you to all the children who played and also to Mrs Nolan-Stone and the music teachers for organising the event. On the subject of Mrs Nolan-Stone, we congratulated her today in assembly on a fabulous achievement. She has achieved a Distinction in her Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). It is very well deserved.
Our Form 8, have worked hard this term to set-up their businesses as part of an enterprise unit in our Creative Curriculum. All 4 teams set-up their stalls at the Summer Fayre; a couple had a sizeable amount of pre-orders before the day. Products were handmade bracelets, scented handmade candles, pots of eco slime and key-ring ‘shrinkies’ (tiny packets of crisps!). On Monday, teams pitched their ideas to a panel of judges in the ‘Lions’ Lair’. Thank you to our judges, Mr Jefferis, Mrs Telfer, and Mrs Vernyhough who owns The Yard in Poundbury. All the teams gave excellent presentations but there could only be one winner. Congratulations to Charlie, Sam, Theo and Vishnu of ‘Keyring Kingdoms’ who took first place! Form 8 raised over £1000 collectively and they will be donating all of this to their chosen charities. Well done!
Our Head of Modern Foreign Languages, Mrs Smith, has been planning ‘cultural’ rewards for her classes to thank them for all their hard work in French this term.
Firstly, for Form 4 who had created excellent pieces of writing in French. They recently drew and described a little alien and finally made a puppet to accompany their text. As a reward, Form 4 enjoyed a French treasure hunt and traditional games for their last lesson. Some lucky winners even got a chance to try French snacks at breaktime!
Forms 3 and 4 have been working on the topic of school and learnt to give their opinions on what they liked and disliked doing during the school day. Their treat was learning how to play a game of pétanque, making the most of the lovely weather we are having.
Leaving the best till last, after Form 5 finished their module learning about breakfast food, they were treated to hot chocolate, pastries and baguette with jam for their last lesson. It went down particularly well after an energetic swimming session! To end the day, Form 6 made some fantastic mini booklets revising the sports and activities vocabulary covered over the term. Well done everyone, and Mrs Smith wishes you a bonnes vacances!
Friday is our last day of term and the weather is looking fabulous for our Form 8 Leavers’ picnic!
