This week has been inspection week at Sunninghill, which although is a huge amount of work for the entire staff body, it is also a wonderful opportunity to highlight all the fabulous teaching and learning opportunities that take place in our school on a daily basis.
I would like to say how proud I am of our school community. Throughout the visit, our pupils were welcoming, courteous and articulate, speaking with confidence about their experiences at school. It was also very encouraging to see how strongly our sense of community was reflected in the parent and pupil surveys. I would also like to make a very special mention of all the staff team who work tirelessly to make sure the children benefit from the best possible opportunities to learn and thrive in school and have the best possible childhood. Although I am not allowed to share any feedback as yet – I am smiling a lot! We look forward to sharing the full report with you in due course.
The prize-giving ceremony for the Rotary Young Writers Competition took place at Waterstones on Wednesday afternoon. Huge congratulations to Alice in Form 5, who has won both the local and district rounds of the Junior competition and is now through to the National Final! We are incredibly proud of her achievement and wish her the very best of luck.
And a huge well done to Sasha-Mae, who achieved 2nd place in the Intermediate category this year after securing 3rd place last year, a brilliant progression and a fantastic accomplishment! We couldn’t be prouder of our talented writers!
We were also delighted to welcome Roland and Rachel from the Dorchester Rotary Club to our assembly today, who presented our Highly Commended Rotary Young Writers awards. A huge well done to Jia Wei, Elsie, Olivia, Remi, Mina, Florence T, Ted and Nora for their fantastic achievements. We also handed out our Well Done Winner certificates to Florence F, the whole of Reception, William N, Orlando, Samson, Form 4, Charlie and Baxter – congratulations to you all.
Our 4Cs Awards were given to Commitment – William N and Charlie, Compassion – Orlando and Manu, Courage – Freddy and Coco, Creativity – Florence F and Agatha.
This morning’s assembly was a little different – and full of celebration and fun!
After the awards, staff were invited to win some extra break time for the children by taking part in a series of fun house games and challenges, ably assisted by members of their houses. From paper aeroplane contests and Rubik’s Cube challenges to balloon races and the ‘Easiest quiz in the World’ (wonderfully written and hosted by Gianni), it quickly became clear that our staff body is just a tiny bit competitive! In the end there could only be one winner – and this time it was Frome, but the overall staff points of 62 meant that all the children enjoyed an extra long break time to thank them for all being so brilliant during our inspection week.
A brilliant morning filled with celebration, teamwork and lots of laughter.
Form 7 and 8 in had a good time in scholarship club this week. They boiled up red cabbage and filtered it to make an indicator which they then used to test if substances were acid, alkali and neutral.
We had a small taste of sunshine this week, which was so lovely to see at long last – and was especially enjoyable as Forms 3 and 4 enjoyed their first netball match at home against Clayesmore. Well done to you all!
Tonight, the much anticipated PTFA school disco is well underway! As ever, the staff have been practicing their best disco moves in the hope of impressing the children! Thank you to our fabulous PTFA for organising this once again, and to Phil at ‘Get up and Groove’ for being so entertaining! The children absolutely love it and it is a date we all look forward to in the diary!
Have a wonderful and restful weekend everyone!
David
