Today we celebrated NSPCC Number Day – a fun-filled day of maths in support of a wonderful cause. The children arrived in their home clothes with creative number-themed outfits, ready to enjoy the activities organised by Mr Butcher. In assembly, we were treated to more astonishing Maths Magic, and at break time the children eagerly took part in a variety of maths-based treasure hunts. During lessons, the children took part in puzzles, body maths and code breaking activities. Throughout the day, the children have been taking part in the TT Rockstars NSPCC competition, so we look forward to seeing how well they have done! It was lovely to see everyone having so much fun while raising money for such an important cause.

Form 8 were delighted to visit Bobbins for National Storytelling Week on Thursday, where they read the younger children’s favourite stories to them. The older pupils brought each tale to life with confidence and warmth, creating a magical atmosphere as the Bobbins children listened with wide-eyed wonder. It was a lovely opportunity for Form 8 to act as role models and to share in the joy of stories that mean so much to the littlest members of our school community.

The Science Scholarship 4Cs group explored density through a hands-on experiment this week. They created mini ‘lava lamps’ using oil, water, food colouring and effervescent tablets. The pupils observed that the oil floated on top of the water because it is less dense. When the tablets were added, gas bubbles formed and carried the water and food colouring upwards, as the bubbles had an even lower density. Once the bubbles reached the surface and popped, the gas escaped and the water and food colouring sank back to the bottom, as they are more dense than the oil.

The form 7 & 8 girls enjoyed an afternoon of Netball practise, working on attacking and defensive tactics in the shooting circle. Lots of dodging, marking and rebounding alongside fun and laughter – another great session girls. Well done!

Well done to our swimmers who took part in the IAPS swimming qualifiers on Thursday at Clayesmore School. A brilliant effort by all involved!

Our Senior Prep gardeners have been enjoying some secateurs work with Liz this week helping around our site, getting it ready for Spring! When the rain finally stopped this week it really was wonderful to see some sunshine – Spring is not so very far away!

Finally I would like to thank my colleagues, tour guides, and our PTFA for all their help towards another very successful Open Morning. As ever we received some lovely comments from our visitors who were really grateful to have such lovely conversations with staff, PTFA and of course our children.

I would also like to thank our PTFA for the purchase of some lovely new table tennis bats and balls, and some fabulous new basketball nets. This request has come through the School Council, from the children who requested these items in their sports survey. The pupil voice is so important at Sunninghill – as is our very supportive PTFA. So thank you.

Have a wonderful weekend!

David
