At Sunninghill, we often talk about being a family – and families look after one another.
In a our assembly today we explored what compassion truly looks like in action. I told a story called The Day We Built the Bridge, about ‘Tom’, a new boy who found his first days at school overwhelming. Instead of grand gestures, it was the small, thoughtful actions of his classmates that made the difference. Each act was small on its own. But together, they built something powerful – a bridge of belonging. At Sunninghill, we believe compassion is strength in action. When we choose kindness, we build bridges – and when we build bridges, no one stands alone.
It was so lovely to see this put into action at breaktime today as our senior prep children played with our juniors! They had so much fun!
With the focus of Children’s Mental Health week being all about belonging, the children also took part in an assembly on Monday which focused on this and thinking about why belonging matters. In PSHE lessons, the children have had the opportunity to think about how their own mental health will flourish when they feel connected and valued. Form 3 and 4 have created their own ‘belonging maps’ and thought about their place in our world.
This week we were delighted to welcome many of our pre-school parents into our new reception classroom to join in with some fun activities with our existing reception children. The transition from nursery to school is incredibly important, and something that we work very hard at here at Sunninghill and Little Robins Nursery. Our aim, of course, is to make the transition as seamless as possible, and to give all our children the best possible start to their school journey.
I cannot believe how quickly this half term has flown by. Next half term we have so much to look forward to, including our school disco on the 27th February, Sunninghill’s Got Talent on the 20th March, Star Gazing on the 23rd March, Musical concerts on the 18th and 19th March – and of course our PTFA Easter egg hunt on the 26th March! I hope you all have a very relaxing half term, and I look forward to seeing you all when we get back.
David
