The start of the Summer Term has been very vibrant and there seems to be a great energy surrounding sport at Sunninghill.

Pupils have thoroughly enjoyed using the pool again with swimming sessions taking place in PE, enrichment and 3 after school clubs. They have managed to get rid of their swimming cobwebs and are now preparing hard for the swimming galas which will take place later this term. The grounds staff have done an amazing job giving the pool area a facelift and have built an outdoor covered area next to the changing rooms.

Reception thoroughly enjoyed their first swimming session of the term this morning.

Although we haven’t been able to dust off the cricket whites for fixtures just yet, the sound of a cricket bat connecting with a ball is a lovely reminder that summer is (almost) here! Pupils have been playing mixed cricket in Games and the standard of play on display has been excellent at times. The seniors have been fortunate to train at Martinstown Cricket ground and have received expert tuition from ECB coach Ross Baker.

Covid-19 restrictions have enabled pupils to participate in a wider range of sports in Games as well as in mixed gender sessions, one thing children have really missed out on in the last year is playing competitive fixtures against other schools. The senior tennis team recently participated in a pilot fixture to see how we can host matches whilst maintaining social distancing measures. Confidence across schools is gradually increasing and we intend to return to cricket fixtures later this term.

Tennis continues to grow in popularity at Sunninghill with many pupils receiving expert tuition from the tennis coaches. The performance levels of some of the players is absolutely outstanding and it is pleasing to see so many pupils hone their skills on the courts during break times.

It has been vitalizing to see so many pupils participate in the vast array of sports clubs ranging from volleyball to kickboxing and football to rounders. Pupils can look forward to more sporting opportunities in enrichment this term as well as the swimming gala and the much anticipated sports day!

Thank you to all the parents who completed the clubs and activities form on School Ping and the sports questionnaire.

Wishing you a healthy and active Summer Term.
