Last month I downloaded the Action for Happiness calendar. It had the title Altruistic August and suggested daily actions to help you be kinder to others (and yourself too!). Action for Happiness is a movement of people committed to building a happier and more caring society. Their aim is wanting to see a fundamentally different way of life – where people care less about what they can get just for themselves and more about the happiness of others.
Everyone’s path to happiness is different, and based on the latest research, they have identified ‘10 Keys to Happier Living’ that consistently tend to make life happier and more fulfilling. Together they spell “GREAT DREAM”.
Each month they produce a calendar focusing on one of the keys and examples of actions that can be done on a daily basis.
This morning in our whole school assembly we looked at the 10 keys and the Self Care September calendar. The children discovered that Self-care isn’t selfish, it’s essential. No one is perfect, but so often we compare our insides to other people’s outsides. This month the idea is to encourage everyone to be kinder to themselves (as well as others), especially when things go wrong. Self-care increases our resilience and helps us get more out of life. It also helps us accept others as they are too.
I have also downloaded the Action for Happiness App and a new action from the calendar pops up on my phone each morning. It won’t always be possible to carry out the suggested action for the day, however, I hope they at least give a reminder for another time. If you would like further information click the button below
You may find that your children want you to join in with them so do let us know how you get on and I hope you have fun with it.
