It is the end of our first full week, and what a glorious week we have had! The children have come back very happy and have loved playing in the sunshine together. Thank you so much to our wonderful PTFA who have bought us a new Maypole! It really is a sign of the Summer Term for me when I see Junior Prep dancing outside my office!

On our return to school I was absolutely delighted to receive news of our excellent LAMDA results with 59% of our pupils from Forms 1-7 receiving a distinction and 37% gaining a merit. Well done to Louis N who received the top mark of 93% and to Nora, Logan and Lottie who each scored 90%. Absolutely incredible results and this is all thanks to the hard work of our pupils, their parents and the teachers that helped prepare them. Thank you to you all.

This term we have welcomed our new Heads of School, Sofiia and Harvey. We know you are going to be excellent role models for all the children in school.

In assembly we discussed taking responsibility for our belongings and for our learning. We celebrated our Well Done winners, including Alfie, Remi, Sofia A, George, Emily, Alice and Felix. Our Academic Excellence awards went to Elodie, Teddy, Tessie, Beau, Daisy, Sophia and Amelia. This week Rosie and Sophia C won the Commitment award, Beau and Harry the Compassion award, Elodie and Rosa  the courage award and Toby and Amelka the Creativity Award.  Well done to you all for your excellent start to their term.

On Monday, we were very fortunate to have the band CTRL, perform to all our pupils in Forms 5-8. The band performed songs from their debut album which will be released this Summer and will also be supporting Justin Timberlake on tour over the Summer. After the performance, the band spoke to the children about bullying / online bullying and about the importance of speaking up if this is happening to you or if you are struggling with your mental health. The band also discussed the importance of healthy relationships and the characteristics of healthy and unhealthy relationships, highlighting the importance of respect and tolerance and why diversity should be celebrated between us all. They also highlighted the importance of working hard at school and the options after school using their own experiences to connect with the children.
The talk was really interactive and the pupils got so much out of the discussions and absolutely loved seeing the band perform.

Forms 5 and 6 have just returned from a fabulous week in Dartmoor. They have been camping, cooking, climbing, abseiling, hiking, cycling and caving- an all action week in fabulous sunshine! What lucky children!

Our residentials are such an important part of our curriculum, as they really build on the confidence, independence and resilience of our children. By pushing themselves out of their comfort zones, trying new things, they demonstrate our core school values of courage and commitment, and by looking after their friends, their incredible teamwork and compassion really shines through. Thank you to Mr Willemse and Mrs Telfer and our friends at Rock and Rapid adventures for giving them such an incredible week!

Our Forest School has begun this term with Forms 1 and 2 and Miss Livesey, our Forest School Lead. Last week the children built fires and learnt about staying safe with fires and looking for the signs of Spring around our beautiful school grounds. Last week the pupils enjoyed learning how to be safe around a camp fire, and enjoyed hot chocolate around the fire! I was delighted to be passing just as the hot chocolate was served, so I got to enjoy a cup too! This week the pupils looked at the fruit trees and their different stages of growth and were looking at the crows nests in the trees. The children created their own nest, with the challenge being creating one that could be picked up without falling apart. The children realised how difficult this is – and what amazing skills birds have, creating these homes for their chicks.

Next week is our whole school Open Morning and our PTFA Quiz night, so I will be busy polishing up on my general knowledge over the weekend! We have so many exciting things happening this term, so please make sure you check our Summer Term dates.

I hope you all have a wonderful sun filled bank holiday weekend!

Best wishes

David

Finally I wanted to share some wonderful news from Martha, who is currently travelling in Penang Malaysia, on her term travelling with her family. She has been fundraising for The Princess Trust and has raised over £1,500, by cutting her hair, which is enough money for 3 wigs to be made for children suffering from hair loss after cancer treatments (they cost £550 each). We are incredibly proud of you Martha – this is an incredible display of compassion which makes me very proud! Well done.
