It has been an incredibly busy week, with lots of sport, music, trips and visits. On Thursday we held the first of our Reception Open Events, welcoming parents of our existing pre-school children, as well as some new families who will be joining us in September next year.
This week in assembly, in advance of our Remembrance Service on Monday, Mr Stazicker led our assembly as we remembered all those who have died serving their country.
Our Well Done winners this week were Ava M, Grace, Olivia, George, Ava S and Henry C, as well as the whole of Form 4 for their amazing behaviour and knowledge shown on their trip to the Bovington Tank Museum.
We also awarded certificates to Felix, Sofia, Elizabeth and Juliette for their stage 1 sailing, and Stage 1 and 2 Sailing certificates to Toby and Oliver, who continued with their sailing over the holidays. A great achievement!
We had an incredible number of children receive their bronze house point badge this week, having earnt 50 house points so far this term, which is amazing given how early it is into the academic year. This is testament to the hard work of our pupils who show our school values of compassion, commitment, courage and creativity on a daily basis. Well done to you all.
Form 3 pupils enjoyed a fantastic day of Tag Rugby on Thursday which was hosted by Dorchester Rugby Club. The day started with coaching sessions where pupils learned techniques and the tag rugby rules. In the afternoon Sunninghill played 5 matches. Each pupil developed their skills throughout the day, becoming more confident. Mr Willemse said that their behaviour and skills were fantastic and they were a credit to the school!
We also held our senior house rugby competition this week which was a lot of fun!
Also on Thursday, Form 4 had an evacuee experience day at Bovington Tank Museum as part of their history topic on World War 2. The children found out about how people shopped, cooked and planned their meals during rationing in WW2 in the reconstructed street scene. They explored an evacuee’s suitcase and discovered how people washed and cleaned in the 1940s, as well as experiencing what an air raid would have been like in an Anderson shelter. The children used their problem solving skills to find out how tanks were adapted to face the challenges of beach landing.
The staff at the museum commented on how knowledgeable the children were about life in wartime Britain and they loved their enthusiasm for this topic.
Well done Form 4. We are very proud of you all.
Form 7 received some exciting post this week during their French lesson, from their new pen-pals in Laval, France.
Mrs Fernley, our former Head of English at Sunninghill, is now teaching in France and has organised this project with her new pupils.
Form 7 are currently working on their replies!
Friday afternoon was very exciting – not only did we hold the first of our Aladdin Rehearsals – but we also held the PTFA whole school disco – which even included some of our new babies in Nursery! It was a fabulous event and the children had so much fun – it was up there with one of the noisiest school events I have ever been to! My thanks to our wonderful PTFA and also to Phil from Get up and Groove Entertainment. He really has an incredible energy and sense of fun – as well as great taste in music!
Keep an eye out for information about our Christmas Fayre on Thursday 28th November, and also our PTFA Dinner and Ceilidh which is on Saturday 25th January! Please come along and support both events.
This week, we had our first visit from ‘Rock Steady’, who had some of our Form 3 children this week! They sounded great and the children really enjoyed their first session.
Finally, we are so excited to share the fantastic news that Lottie in Form 7 has been welcomed into the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain. Mrs Robson, Lottie’s Clarinet teacher, says:
‘The National Children’s Orchestra is for chosen musicians from the ages of 8 to 14 – only 450 children are selected nationwide. Lottie will have the chance to work with world class tutors. conductors and soloists. We wish her lots of fun with this fantastic opportunity which is so well deserved.’
Well done Lottie – an absolutely incredible achievement! We are all so proud!
Next week looks to be another very busy one with our Remebrance Service on Monday, which I am very much looking forward to!
