Every week in school we recognise the children in our school who have worked hard and shown our school values. This week I was delighted to award 2 very special Headmaster’s Commendation to Phin and Baxter for showing exceptional compassion to one of the visiting prospective students this week. This incredible kindness, especially when they do not know that anyone is watching, makes me incredibly proud. With 6 taster days this week, it was a very busy week and all our buddies did an exceptional job of looking after our visitors. Well done to them all.
In assembly today Elodie, Florence, Clara, Sonny, Agatha and Sophia all were awarded Academic Excellence awards. Mrs Baker, Bea, Orlando, Juliette, Felix, Baxter, Albie, Max and Manu all received a Well Done award. Jia Wei received the Compassion award, Grace the Courage award, Baxter the Commitment award and Martha the Creativity award.
Today is National Teaching Assistant Appreciation Day, and at Sunninghill we are incredibly lucky to have 4 amazing Teaching Assistants – Mrs Culshaw, Mr Holland, Miss Brown and Mrs Baker. As I am sure you all know, they all work tirelessly in class, providing additional support to their teachers, but also incredibly hard behind the scenes, preparing materials for lessons, covering duties where needed, and always being kind and compassionate members of our school community. We truly appreciate all that they do and we are grateful every day. Thank you.
This Friday, our Junior Prep we were lucky enough to support an amazing charity, Child of Hope, by immersing in Ugandan culture and arts. The children have started their learning but will explore how Ugandan children learn without the use of technology over the coming week.
The aim of the day is twofold: to raise funds for the charity Child of Hope and to help our children gain an understanding of the lives of children in a different country. Child of Hope provides free education, healthcare and welfare for children living in extreme poverty in Mbale and Karamoja, Uganda. For more information about the charity, please visit their website www.childofhopeuganda.org.
The children all had an amazing day, dressed in the colours of the Ugandan flag, and loved learning new facts about Uganda and seeing how the children of other countries are creative with their resources.
Form 4 enjoyed their first trumpet lesson today with Mr Penfold – some fantastic listening, and a brilliant first lesson with great sound from all the pupils!
Form 4 also did an amazing job this week presenting facts and personal family stories about the home front in Dorset during the war this week. They also finished off their war effort propaganda posters. Well done Form 4!
On Monday, pupils, staff and school dogs, were looking super smart as we all had our portraits taken with Tempest photography. I am looking forward to seeing all the new photos!
I am just back from another exciting Friday afternoon of Windsurfing, my second lesson ever. It is so much fun…and I am so grateful to share the experience with the windsurfing enrichment group.
Next week I am looking forward to showing off our lovely school to even more prospective parents for our Open Day on Friday 3rd October. In the meantime, I hope you have all have a restful weekend.
