Wow! What a week! Sunninghill really shone this week in all the children’s sporting endeavours – both in our Nursery, Junior and Senior Sports Days and in our Swimming Gala! It really was amazing.
During our Sports days, pupils were well prepared and gave it their all, to make their supporters proud and win those coveted medals! Events were very competitive with pupils pushing each other to their limits. All our sports days had a lovely warm and supportive atmosphere, and we had a great couple of days!
Well done to Purbeck who were victorious overall this year and lifted the much coveted Althletics Inter-House Trophy.
The sports department were certainly very busy this week as on Thursday we also held our Swimming gala for pupils with our junior prep in the morning and our senior prep pupils in the afternoon. Again, some amazing efforts from all pupils, and incredible support from all their friends. Well done to Frome who lifted the cup in the Swimming competition!
My thanks to all our sports department, and staff who helped run all our sporting events this week – brilliantly organised and a lot of fun for all the children.
On Friday we were treated to a fabulous assembly from Form 7 who told us all about the highlights of their residential. Congratulations also to Phin and Felix who both came second in their age category in the ILG writing competition, which was across all the schools in the group!
Well done to Penelope, Violet, Clare, Oliver, Oscar and Abel who also received their well done certificates this week.
On Monday night, we held our Senior Music Informal concert. As ever, we had fabulous performances, some who performed to an audience for the very first time. Well done to you all.
On Friday night, we held our annual Sunninghill’s Got Talent show – which did not disappoint! The level of talent at our small school absolutely amazes me – and the confidence of our children who perform to a packed audience is truly remarkable. It was a fantastic show, made possible also from the support of our parents, and the incredible music department we have here at Sunninghill.
Mrs Smith was out with Forms 7 and 8 this week who had the opportunity to discover more about the Saint Peter’s Church they visit for different school services throughout the year. The Reverend Keith Magee was kind enough to take the pupils on a tour of the building and discuss its many wonderful features. The children were able to develop their understanding further by completing a discovery trail quiz. At the end of the session there was time to reflect on the different aspects of their visit and the memories they would take away with them. It was particularly fascinating to hear about some of the connections the children made with the history and people associated with this place of worship. Hopefully the next time they visit, they will be able to appreciate it further, thinking about its importance as a place for the community to gather and also the part it plays in the history of the local area.
This term has just flown by and next week we will be enjoying our last week of term with our Year 8’s holding their Lion’s Lair presentation to the judges tomorrow afternoon, ABRSM exams, our Nursery graduation service, our final assembly and of course our Leaver’s Service and Speech Day. It is going to be an exciting but a little emotional week!
Best wishes
David
