Mme Shilliday, our Head of Science, is delighted that science experiments are back on in the lab! Form 8 investigated catalysts by adding different samples of food to hydrogen peroxide. The foaming results with the ox liver, impressive!
The pink blossom on our trees is always a source of great delight to the children at break time. They love to turn it into pink confetti! It certainly made a nice back drop whilst we lined up outside for our regular fire practice this week. Our children are well drilled at exiting the school quickly and quietly.
The school library is open again but some Form 6 girls prefer to read at break whilst relaxing on the front lawn.
Our outside heated swimming pool has been well used all week although the outside air temperature has been a little chilly!
Thanks go to Mr Willemse who, on Thursday, piloted our first fixture since lockdown with Covid measure in place. He organised an LTA Schools Team Tennis match and we welcomed pupils in Years 7 and 8 from The Wey Valley School. Mr Willemse said the players started passive and a little nervous but soon got into the swing of things. Great sportsmanship was displayed throughout and the standard of tennis was high. Well done to our singles and doubles teams who, almost all, won their games. We look forward to more sports fixtures this term.
Mrs Salisbury has been busy promoting Captain Tom’s 100 challenge in school this week. It can be 100 of anything and Form 3 and 4 will be doing 100 laps of the school field. You will have read in our Monday blog that the pupils chose local charity Julia’s House as the beneficiary of our fundraising.
Sailing has restarted this week at the Andrew Simpson Sailing Academy in Weymouth. Children were very excited just to climb aboard the school mini buses but apparently getting on the water was fun too! Mr Holland had his first go at sailing on Thursday. Despite capsizing he enjoyed it so much he has decided to take it up as a sport. This afternoon, it is Forms 3 and 4 turn to sail!
After an action packed week, I am glad of this long bank holiday weekend to recharge the batteries. A BBQ would be nice but as we ran out of gas last weekend I will be content with a long walk and picnic lunch.
Have a lovely bank holiday weekend.
