Another year over, and we certainly finished it in style! It was an incredibly busy, but very special week.
Nursery children held their Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, organised by Miss Morava, Mrs Pitman and Miss Neave. Each child walked the red carpet in their red graduation gowns to receive their graduation medal and parents were treated to a sumptuous afternoon tea. It was a wonderful event and marked a rite of passage before children move up to the Reception class!
Thursday saw our Final Assembly and an opportunity to celebrate all the music and sports colours that were awarded at the end of term as well as the endeavour cups, and prizes for our 4 C’s that were awarded. So much to celebrate and we are delighted for all the children for the awards that they won. We were also able to surprise Mr Holland with a wedding gift from all the parents who clubbed together to get him US dollars for his honeymoon. We wish him, and the new Mrs Holland, the most wonderful wedding next week and a very long and happy marriage.
Thursday saw huge excitement in the grounds of Sunninghill as the ice cream van made it’s annual appearance. A huge treat and some very happy children (and staff!)
Congratulations to all of our Form 8 pupils who took part in our Lions’ Lair presentations this week!
Over the past month, our pupils have worked incredibly hard to design, create and sell their own products as part of this exciting enterprise challenge. Thanks to their creativity, teamwork and commitment, they have raised over £300 for their chosen charities – a fantastic achievement!
On Monday evening they presented their journeys to our Lions, Ian and Vicki, who were hugely impressed by the professionalism, passion and effort shown by every team. We are immensely proud of every pupil who took part. A special congratulations goes to Everything England, who were chosen as this year’s winning team by our Lions. Well done to everyone involved on such a successful project!
Wednesday was our swimming gala, which was a fantastic day with some brilliant swimming from our Reception children upwards. My thanks to Mr Willemse and the staff for putting on such a lovely day.
Speech Day today was a wonderful day from start to finish, with a very personal focus on our fabulous Form 8’s.
We began the day with our Form 8 Leavers’ Service at St Peter’s Church which was a wonderful service with beautiful readings and musical performances. Back at school, the Prize Giving and Speech Day began and I was delighted to award our children for all their successes and progress. To those who did not win this year, be proud of all you have achieved this year – it is noticed and appreciated. My thanks to Vernon Hales, our Governor from ILG, and to Alumni Joseph Burdge for his wonderful and inspiring speech.
Not only did we say goodbye to our Year 8’s but we also said goodbyes to some very special staff. To Claire Thomasson, our SENCO, who has been with us for 25 years, to Jeanette Wedge, one of our fabulous receptionists, to Holly Glover, our wonderful Form 1 and 2 teacher, and to Kate Hawes, who has taught violin at Sunninghill for an incredible 35 years! Thank you all for everything you have done for the children at Sunninghill. You will all be greatly missed, but always welcome back at Sunninghill whenever you can come and visit us.
Don’t forget the Summer Holiday Challenge! I look forward to hearing all about it in September.
All that leaves me to do is wish our Form 8’s all the very best for their new senior schools, and wish you all a wonderful Summer holiday.
David
