Wow! What a week! It really has been an absolute pleasure to see the children at Sunninghill shine so brightly this week, whether it be on our Live Stage at the Summer Fayre, or racing down the field at our various sports days. As the term draws to a close, I have been reflecting on the enormous number of opportunities on offer to our children. We are a small school, with an incredibly dedicated staff team who consistently go above and beyond to give the very best school experience for all the children in our care. I am very privileged to work with such a great team and I am grateful for all that they have done this year.

On Wednesday we held our Sports Day for Reception, Form 1 and Form 2 and then after for Forms 3-8. A beautiful sunny day filled with fantastic performances on track and field, great teamwork and wonderful sportsmanship.
Congratulations to Ridgeway who were crowned this year’s Sports Day champions and proudly took home the cup. Well done to everyone who took part and helped to make it such a memorable afternoon.

Thursday was of course our nursery sports day. We were so incredibly proud of the littlest members of our school community who rose to the challenge, with some fantastic events! They were so well behaved, despite the heat and it was a wonderful afternoon! Thanks to Mr Willemse, Hristina, and all the nursery team for organising such a brilliant event.

On Saturday we had a wonderful day at our Summer Fayr, a chance to bring the whole school and nursery community together. It was such a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day and so many current and former families returning to enjoy the celebrations with us. The children had great fun with all the stalls and the new Live Stage was a huge success – we have some incredible talent at Sunninghill! A huge thank you once again to our very kind sponsors for supporting this year’s event: West Dorset Wedding Flowers, SDJ Commercial, Walbridge Motor Company, and Greenwood Grange.

Congratulations to Juliet in Form 3 for winning our programme front cover competition. Her beautiful design captured the spirit of our Summer Fayre perfectly! Well done to Elsie too for selling the most raffle tickets.

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the event. We are especially grateful to our incredible PTFA, our dedicated staff, parent volunteers, and all of our talented performers on the Live Stage. A special mention goes to Albie, who did a fantastic job as our sound technician throughout the day.

Thanks to everyone’s generosity and hard work, we raised over £4,000 – an incredible achievement that will make a real difference to our school community. Thank you all for making it such a memorable day!

This week was the last assembly before our end of year celebration assembly next Thursday, and it is very close between the 4 houses. With lots of house points still being given out, we were delighted to give out 2 platinum house point badges, the first of the year, to Penelope G-F and Beatrice Tyson. An amazing achievement as these are very rare!

Academic excellence certificates were given to Phoebe, Maddie, Sofia, Ava, Albie, Ted and Lottie. Well done certificates were given to all of Reception, Form 1 and Form 4, Grace, Lilia, Baxter, Nathaniel and Oliver.

We were also delighted to welcome Rachel and Roland from the Dorchester Rotary, who came to award Alice with her trophy for coming 3rd nationally in the Rotary Young writers Competition. This is an amazing achievement and we are incredibly proud of her.

In our recent ABRSM examinations, JiaWei received his Grade 4 cello certificate, Grace her Grade 3 singing, Sasha Mae her Grade 2 violin and Grade 3 singing, and Rory his Grade 3 violin. We also had the incredible news that Nikolas, Connor, Jia Wei and Sophia all received a Distinction for their Grade 2 Music theory examinations.

More awards were given out for literacy gold, and also for Stage 1 sailing, and Eben and Sonny shared their medals they received in hockey outside of school.  Charlie and Freddie received the Commitment award, Grace and Will N the Compassion award, Connor and Beau the Courage award and Oscar and Maddie the Creativity award.  Another excellent week.

During the last of our enrichment afternoons on Friday, Mrs Telfer and Mme Derrick put down the rounders bats and got out the water squirters! Much hilarity was had as the senior children ran the gauntlet of the junior sports track, while their friends squirting them with water. A great end to a fabulous week!

Next week is, of course, our last week of term. Another very busy week, but a very exciting one too and I am very much looking forward to seeing you all at Speech Day on Friday, and at our other events throughout the week.

Have a wonderful weekend!

David
