There were lots of lovely big smiles on children coming back into school this morning after the half-term break. A few were looking a little anxious, but they were mostly staff. I managed to enjoy a few days walking in the Lakes. The weather was unexpectedly hot which made our planned Grasmere, Stone Arthur, Great Rigg, Rydal circular walk quite a challenge, especially for my rather elderly beagle!

Flying Start Competition

Form 8 have been learning about the theory of flight during Friday enrichment. They decided to begin by making test gliders using cardboard and masking tape. The groups then modified their initial designs based on these test flights. To enter the competition, each team had to produce a poster, make a prototype and prepare a class presentation. I was pleased to see some original thinking in their designs.

I am delighted to announce the winners as follows:

Best Team Work: Caitlin, Bea, Theo and Will S

Best Innovative Design: Henry, Poppy, Meggie and George

Best artistic design: Oliver and Will M

Best engineered design: Eddie, Leo, Harry and Gethyn

Best presentation: Katie, Holly, Alexandra and Connie

Thank you to Mrs Salisbury and Mrs Smith for organising this event.

Expedition

This week it is the turn of Form 5 to go on their activity residential. The photo shows the group ready to leave with the bus loaded up with luggage and Mr Willemse’s snacks. I am sure they will have a fantastic time. Mr Willemse and Mrs Thorpe will be looking after the group, ably supported by Mr Dunbar. I look forward to hearing about their adventures later in the week.
