With Mother’s Day coming up this Sunday, Reception class invited their mothers in for an afternoon of activities on Thursday – making cupcakes, and bookmarks out of flowers that they had pressed. It was so lovely for both the children and their mothers, and I would like to thank Miss Livesey, Mrs Culshaw and Liz for putting on such a lovely event. Liz has also been busy with some of the older junior prep children making moss balls, which, if you are very lucky, may just appear as a gift on Sunday!
In our assembly this morning we congratulated Millie, Gianni, Ava, Baxter, Connor and Sophia for their Career’s Day Passports. Mrs Noyce also handed out a large number of Literacy Gold certificates – 32 in total! Eli, William N, Jonah, Samson, Sofia A, Ava S, Nathaniel and Sophia won the Academic Excellence awards. Ava, Elodie, Freddy, Elsie, Olivia, Florence, Charlie, Sasha Mae, Phin, Finlay, Louis and Harry received Well Done certificates. Daisy and William C received the Commitment award, Sonny and Elodie the Compassion award, Baxter and Tessie the Courage award and Nora and Jonah the Creativity prize.
Form 4 had a very interesting Monday morning finding out about how Athelhampton House became the first carbon neutral stately home in the country. This fitted in with our science topic on electricity. We were lucky to have a private tour of the solar panel field, the huge batteries in the battery room and the underfloor heating in the main house. The children also got a chance to explore the grounds and have a lovely play on the lawns.
On Tuesday we were delighted to welcome Onatti Theatre Productions to Sunninghill, who performed a lively bilingual play for our pupils, that blended language learning with plenty of entertainment. The humorous play followed Max, an English boy who becomes lost on the beach while on holiday in France. As he tries to find his way back to his hotel, Max meets a variety of characters and, with the help of the audience, has to communicate in French to find his way back to his hotel. There was fantastic audience participation throughout, and the children who volunteered to join the action on stage were very brave practising their French in front of everyone! It was also lovely to welcome pupils in Year 3 and 4 from Prince of Wales First School, Cerne Abbas First School, Winterbourne Valley and St Mary’s, Charminster, who joined us for this fun and educational afternoon. Thank you to Mme Derrick for organising this fantastic event.
Today, a team of 4 talented mathematicians, Lottie, Felix, Louise and Sasha from form 8 to compete in the year 6 UKMT (United Kingdom Maths Trust) Team Challenge, hosted by Lytchett Minsters School. This is a national competition aimed at Year 8 and 9 students. The competition was split in to 4 challenging rounds that tested mathematical skill, team work, problem solving, strategic skills and even co-ordination in the relay round. It was brilliant to see our students working amongst likeminded children, really enjoying their maths and holding their own against larger schools and children a year older them. The children had a great experience and did themselves and the school proud. Well done to you all.
Form 1 and 2 had such a lot of fun in French this week practicing quite a complex song, which I thought would be lovely for you all to see! Please click on the QR code below!
Next week I am very much looking forward to our Spring Soloist concerts, Red Nose Day (although I am slightly nervous about the challenge of ‘making a biscuit look like a member of staff’ competition), and of course Sunninghill’s Got Talent!
Have a lovely weekend everyone, and I hope all of our Mother’s have a wonderful restful day on Sunday!
David
