This week has been an incredibly busy and exciting one at Sunninghill, filled with LAMDA examinations, trips, the Soloists’ Concert, Red Nose Day, and of course, one of the true highlights of our year – Sunninghill’s Got Talent!
On Friday night, 48 amazing children took to the stage in ‘Sunninghill’s Got Talent’. From soloists and musical theatre to puppet shows and magic; from hula hooping and DJ sets to ensembles, dancers, choirs, and rock bands – Sunninghill truly had it all. With performers as young as seven, our courageous and talented children dazzled a packed audience, showcasing the incredible breadth of talent within our school.
It was such a joyful evening, with children cheering one another on, smiling through their performances, and even dancing along to other acts. I felt immensely proud of every single one of them.
We were fortunate to be joined by three fantastic judges: Becki McCall, Head of English at Clayesmore; Emma Griffen, our woodwind teacher at Sunninghill; and her husband Tom, who leads the Royal Marines military band. Our sincere thanks go to them for their time and expertise.
Thank you also to all our wonderful performers, our supportive parents and grandparents, and a very special thank you to the fabulous Mrs Moss and her team of dedicated music and dance teachers for making the event possible. As I mentioned on Friday evening, within just eight days—through this event, the Soloists’ Concert, ABRSM examinations, and our Easter Service – Mrs Moss will have overseen more than 91 performances from our incredibly talented children. This is a truly remarkable achievement for a small school, and one we are immensely proud of.
In Assembly on Friday, we spoke about the importance of supporting charitable causes such as Red Nose Day, and how every single pound really does make a difference – especially when you consider all the children, in schools across the country, contributing their own pound coins on the same day.
To bring this to life, I challenged the children to share their funniest jokes in an attempt to make our panel laugh. This proved no easy task, with Louis and Elsie being particularly tough to impress – although I have to say, Miss Glover was a little easier to win over!
Well done to all our award winners this week, and to Frome who appropriately raised their red flag on Red Nose day for winning the most house points!
On Monday, Forms 1 – 7 took their LAMDA examinations. The examiner was incredibly impressed with their level of preparation and their beautiful manners. Special thanks must go to Louis in Form 8 who worked with the younger children helping them prepare for their examinations on the day. He was so helpful and kind to them all – and it was really very much appreciated and a great display of one of our core school values of compassion. We look forward to hearing back from LAMDA soon with all our grades.
Forms 3 and 4 were treated to a pancake making session with Mme Derrick today to celebrate their end of topic!
This weekend I was lucky enough to go to Bath University to support both Logan and Eben in the National Biathlon Finals. They did incredibly well and I was so proud of them both!
I hope you all have had a wonderful weekend.
David
