As I had a final wander around school this evening in readiness for our Open Morning tomorrow, I was struck by all the wonderful work on the wall in every corner of the school. The school is looking fabulous and my thanks to all the hard work from pupils and staff alike, who have worked so hard to make the school look it’s very best.
This brings me nicely on to my theme in assembly today which is World Teacher’s Appreciation Day. We are very lucky with the dedicated and caring teachers that we have at Sunninghill and I know the children appreciate all that they do for them too.
As usual we celebrated our Academic Excellence winners in our Celebration Assembly – Elodie, Jonah, Violet, Emily, Rory, Sasha-Mae, Lottie and Vira. Our Well Done winners were William, Grace, Mina, Beau, Charlie, Harry P, Harry S, Oscar, Natty and Rosie. Our 4 C’s winners this week were Sonny H and Heidi for Commitment, Samson and Scarlett for Compassion, Romeo and Rosa for Courage, and Ava and Abel for Creativity.
We also celebrated all those who did fantastically well in their recent ABRSM exams as they received their certificates – Leo, Vira, Amelka, Lottie, Daisy, Callisto, Shayan, Zac and Rory. Well done to you all.
We were also delighted to welcome our new School Councilors for this term, who gave a short presentation to the school in assembly. We know they are going to do a fantastic job of representing their peers, and making some positive changes to our school community.
Form 1 enjoyed their visit to Signature House Nursing Home this week, where they all enjoyed a fabulous game of bingo! Our children really look forward to their visits to Signature House and I think the feeling is mutual!
So much work has been happening with our baby room in Little Robins Nursery this term, as we await our Ofsted inspection. The room is looking wonderful and our new nursery staff are very excited to welcome our littlest members of the Sunninghill community into Hatchlings.
Our inter-house senior boys football took part on Wednesday afternoon. The sun shone while the houses battled it out with Frome coming out as champions this time. Congratulations to Frome, and well done to all the boys who played with such good sportsmanship!
The Autumn Regatta at the Andrew Simpson Portland took place this week, with U11’s on Wednesday and U13’s on Thursday. The U11’s race had a total of thirteen boats with six schools participating. Sunninghill occupied four boats with Daisy, Alice, Max, Zachary, Arthur, Sholto, Beau and William. The young sailors had two top six finishes. The U13’s were led by Natty, Louis, Leo and Scarlett with a top five finish out of eighteen boats.
A special mention goes out to Scarlett and Daisy – Daisy highest female helm over both days and Scarlett highest placed female in U13’s.
Despite tough conditions on both days, all boats completed every race. Mr Holland was extremely impressed with their courage, commitment and teamwork, especially as it was the first race for a some of them. My thanks to Mr Holland for taking the children on both days.
I am looking forward to welcoming all our prospective families to our Open Morning tomorrow, to show off our wonderful school.
Have a fantastic weekend!
David
