Another year over, and we certainly finished it in style! It was an incredibly busy, but very special week.
Nursery children held their Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, organised by Miss Morava, Mrs Pitman, Mrs Beasley and Miss Neave. Each child walked the red carpet to receive their graduation medal and parents were treated to drinks and sweet treats. It was a wonderful event and marked a rite of passage before children move up to the Reception class!
Thursday saw our Final Assembly and an opportunity to celebrate all the music and sports colours that were awarded at the end of term as well as the endeavour cups that were awarded. Mr Stazicker treated the school to a very special slideshow, which gave our Form 8’s a glimpse into their future, as AI converted images of them into 30 year olds, in the future roles they had chosen for themselves!
Thursday saw huge excitement in the grounds of Sunninghill as the ice cream van made it’s annual appearance. A huge treat and some very happy children (and staff!)
On Tuesday evening, Mrs Noyce and I attended the Rotary Young Writers award ceremony where Scarlett received her national prize for her wonderful piece entitled Wonderful water. We are so proud of Scarlett for winning her age group nationally, having already won the district competition.
Also on Tuesday 23 very brave pupils sat ABRSM exams, from Grade 1 to Grade 6. Well done to all involved, we are incredibly proud of all your hard work. It has also been lovely to welcome back some of our former pupils who have gone onto to continue with instrumental lessons and have returned to SPS to take their exams this term. Our children work so hard towards these exams and we have already had some very fantastic results over the course of the year, with impressive number of distinctions and merits!Â
Monday night was the final presentation from our Lions’ Lair contestants – to the ‘Lions’ themselves! We are delighted to let you know that the teams raised over £550 for their chosen charities (Dorset air Ambulance, Surfers Against Sewage and WWF).
Our winning team this year was Albi, Natty and Leo, with Surf Life, raising over £350 for Surfers Against Sewage through the sales of their finger surf boards, fridge magnets and dog accessories. The judges were particularly impressed with the marketing and innovation of the Surf Life team during the Summer Fayre.
Well done to all our teams!
Speech Day today was a wonderful day from start to finish, with a very personal focus on our fabulous Form 8’s.
We began the day with our Form 8 Leavers’ Service at St Peter’s Church which was a wonderful service with beautiful readings and musical performances. Back at school, the Prize Giving and Speech Day began and I was delighted to award our children for all their successes and progress. To those who did not win this year, be proud of all you have achieved this year – it is noticed and appreciated. My thanks to Richard Milner-Smith, Director of Education at ILG, and to Tom Krosnar for his wonderful speech which was so poignant and touching and received a standing ovation.
We also wish all our Form 8’s all the very best in their next adventure – we will miss you all – but so glad that Sunninghill was part of your journey. You have all made us very proud and please remember that this will always be your Sunninghill.
We also say goodbye to some very dear colleagues as we say goodbye to Miss Blair, Mrs Akerman, Mr Stazicker, Mrs Sleightholme and Mrs Nolan-Stone. I would like to thank them for everything that they have done for Sunninghill, and wish them well on the next stage of their journey. As we said in their leaving song, the rest is unwritten…
I wish each and every one of you the most fabulous and fun filled Summer break. Thank you all for all your support this year and thank you for helping to make this such a fantastic year.
Best wishes
David
