It’s been an incredibly busy week this week, with lots of exciting trips, our Junior Prep Summer concert, and finished with our fabulous swimming gala! The Summer term really is fantastic, with so many events to look forward to.

This morning in assembly we celebrated Violet, Felix, Ava and Seb who were our Well Done winners this week, and Mina, Ollie, Rosa  and Lottie who were our Academic Excellence winners. Abbas and Benjamin received their pen licenses, Sofia received her bronze reading challenge certificate, and Daisy H her silver certificate. Finally Martha won the most house points for Commitment, Alice W for Creativity, Sonny H for Compassion, and Freya for Courage. Congratulations everyone!

Today we have held our magnificent Junior Prep and Senior Prep swimming gala! Supported by a huge number of parents throughout the day, the children had a superb time swimming their best, and cheering each other, and their houses along! It was a very close contest, but the winning house overall was Ridgeway! Congratulations to them, and well done to all our swimmers! My thanks also to Mr Willemse and Mrs Wilson for organising such a great event, as well as all the staff who helped on the day.

Form 3 had an extreme day on Wednesday for their Extreme Earth topic! They had an amazing talk from William’s dad who successfully climbed Mount Everest a few years ago, and then they had a trip to Tout Quarry in Portland investigating the stone there and doing some sketching.

Well done to four of our Form 7s  who went to Millfield Senior School this week and placed third out of 16 schools in their ‘Physics Olympics’. Albi, Seb, Sonny and Natty took part in 4 practical physics activities and a Fermi maths quiz during the day. They placed 3rd in the Lego rocket car challenge and 2nd on calculating mass and volume. They also took part in an activity building a tower to support masses and another trying to get the biggest difference in temperature in two cups of water being only given 300ml of hot water and 2 ice cubes. The Fermi quiz involved them having to estimate large values and give answers to the nearest power of ten!

As a bonus round all the teams had to guess the number of jelly beans in the water bottle and thanks to a last minute change by Natty, the boys placed third and won a bottle filled with 482 jelly beans! A very enjoyable day had by all!

Nursery and Reception have been enjoying the sunshine in the gardens this week, practicing for their sports days and enjoying all the lovely activities in the gardens, including looking at the newts from our pond with Liz!

It’s another exciting week next week at Sunninghill, with our Nursery and Reception Sports Day on Monday, our Junior and Senior Prep Sports Day on Wednesday, our Senior Music Concert on Thursday and then our Form 8 leavers concert on Friday evening. Saturday 6 July is also our PTFA Summer Fayre and Fun Dog Show, and I hope to see lots of you there too. Please bring along your friends and family. It should be a lot of fun!

Have a wonderful weekend!
