This week was the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, and the children have been learning about the event during their history lessons this week. This morning, during assembly, Mrs Smith gave a presentation to the school all about D-Day, as we reflected on the bravery of those soldiers 80 years ago, and also the work of the women during the war. It is important that we study history so that we learn to do things better in our futures.
As ever, we had a lot to celebrate this week. our Well Done winners this week were Star, Ivy, all of Form 2, Alice, Guy, Nathaniel and Natty. Elsie, Sofia, Matilda, Mabel, Felix and Louis were our Academic Excellence winners. Finlay and AJ won received the Commitment prize, Harry and Elsie the Compassion award, Anna and Oliver the Courage prize, Daisy and Beau the Creativity prize. Ellis also received his pen license this week! We congratulated those children who took part in the the Bincombe Bolt – a charity race. We were also incredibly proud of Daisy, who won a bronze award for her reading challenge, and Felix who won a gold award for his reading challenge – having read an incredible 30 books this year! Finally well done to Nathaniel, Arthur and Sholto who received their Stage 3 sailing certificates, and Daisy and Seb who received their Stage 4 certificate.
This week, Form 2 had a fabulous trip to Corfe Castle. They had a lovely tour guide called Liz who was extremely knowledgeable and told them all about the history of Corfe Castle, including how it was built and destroyed. The children also learnt about what life would have been like living in a castle and that it had been home to kings, knights and a princess! They walked right to the top of the castle and could see for miles around – and even spotted the steam train! Mrs Sleightholme was incredibly impressed with their beautiful behaviour. Well done Form 2!
We had the most wonderful afternoon at our Grandparent’s Day! It was such an incredible turnout and we have received so many lovely comments from our visitors. The children were so excited to see their Grandparents, and were so proud to show off their school as they gave them a tour. They were treated to a beautiful posey, made by Mrs Culshaw and Mrs Stein, afternoon tea and several musical performances. We were especially proud of our nursery children who performed for the first time in front of a very big audience! Thank you to everyone who attended who made it such a special event!
The Summer Term is just fabulous and I have really enjoyed seeing all the children enjoying the sunshine and practicing for Sports Day and for our swimming galas that are just a few weeks away. Liz has been very busy in the garden with gardening lessons and gardening clubs from Nursery all the way up to Form 8!
I’m sure our Form 8’s are going to be very excited this weekend, because on Sunday they will be heading off to Spain for their fabulous residential with Mr Stazicker and Mrs Thomasson. I know they will have the most wonderful time and I can’t wait to hear all about it when they return.
